Loud audio can quickly overwhelm most camcorders' automatic audio gain resulting in muddy audio getting recorded - and it is REALLY loud, add static to the muddiness. An external mic, alone, won't fix this, but some sort of manual audio control (used properly) can resolve it.
ANY video that can get into a computer with a DVD burner or properly attach to a DVD recorder (no computer required) can be burned to DVD or Blue Ray disc. This is a bit of a different thread for that discussion, so we'll just park that for now if that is OK...
In the meantime, at the low end, the best I can find is in the Alesis VideoTrack (standard definition video only), Zoom Q3 (standard definition video only) and the Zoom Q3HD. Small lenses and imaging chips can't do well in low light conditions, but hopefully the stages with the bands are well lit.
For consumer camcorders, Canon HF M series and HF S series have manual audio control... So does the HV40. Then, pretty much any camcorder over $1,000 has manual audio control. Those under about $800 generally don't have any manual audio control.
I am looking into getting a new video camera. I have an old Olympus pocket digital camera that I have used for video clips for a while. It wasn't the best video, but had pretty good sound for its size. I take all kinds of clips...family, fun, you name it, but one thing I like to do is get video at local shows I go to. I have some friends in bands and get things for them time to time and put them online for them. I would like to improve the video so I can put them to DVD/BLURAY disc later. Most cameras will do good on normal circumstances, but in my case, what would be good for these things? Record video at local clubs and get great or even decent video/audio (would get better external mic if possible hopefully not too big, put them to disc and transfer some to youtube clips. Of course, inexpensive would be nice, but will to pay some money for it. Compact would also be nice. Thanks for your help.
Brent.
