I have been using Hotfax v5.0 from SmithMicro for a year or so for sending and receiving faxes and it has been working fine. Last week I decided to start using it to also answer the phone and record messages as that is one of the features it is supposed to support. I immediately had problems with it failing to hang up the line after the caller had hung up and in fact it locked up my computer to the point that I had to reboot. Checking the SmithMicro web site for help I found that I would have to update to v6.0 to receive any support. I paid the update charge ($20), downloaded the newest version, found that it had the same problem, then attempted to contact SmithMicro support for help. Guess what? No phone support without a $25 per incident charge, email only otherwise. I emailed them a detailed description of my problem complete with a list of all hardware and software involved. I asked that they respond as soon as possible. That was on Feb. 14, They immediately answered with an automated message (Thank you for contacting Smith Micro Customer Support. Your request has been received. You will be receiving a response as soon as possible.). It is now Feb. 19 and no reply. I emailed a reminder to them two days ago but no response. I am going to uninstall their product as soon as I can find something that works as advertised. Any info regarding others experiences with similar software will be appreciated.

Anyone have a recommendation? I am considering switching my phone service to vonage but I have a voice capable modem and a broadband internet access.
I am trying out "CallCorder" and it is very unreliable. Records sometimes and not others for seemingly no reason.
My Creative Modem Blaster v.92 came with FaxTalk communicator 4.5 but the calling application will not open.
