Question

Calculate the volume of headphones

Oct 5, 2016 5:17AM PDT

I'm trying to do an experiment that requires me to know the amplitude of sounds being played through headphones. Is there some way that I could easily measure this, or could I calculate the output volume if I know the sensitivity of the headphones and the volume level on the windows computer that I'm using?

I'd have to build a small test box with the decibel meter, line it with acoustic foam and be sure the headphones have some standard mount inside.

Then you could run a standard set of tones to measure response and dB levels.

To calibrate you should also put a Vu meter on the output of the PC so your output level is constant.

Sounds like a hoot of a time building the rig, setup of the experiment and such.
