General discussion

cabling of dvd to tv

Oct 23, 2008 7:47AM PDT

I have red, white yellow cables. Both dvr and tv have newer component video jacks. Can i use red, white and yellow cables to connect dvr to tv using component video jacks instead of audio/video jacks? Is make up of the cables the same? Thanks ronweb

Thanks R. Proffitt. I guess make up of all the cables is the same, just the colors are different for correct hookups?

The reason I used more yellow cables.

The red and white are audio signals. The yellow's are for a video signal. So just to keep everything happy I use the yellow ones. Maybe you have spares collected over the years like me.

I've yet to encounter ANY player that magically configures itself to use component video just because you connected it proper. Be sure not to freak but plow ahead and find the menu on the DVD player to switch it to component output.
