I think I've figured out now that I actually only need one optical cable. It looks like I need to keep my current things(PS3 and cable box) setup as is to the TV. The only thing then that requires the optical cable is going to be from the TV to the receiver and the only extra HDMI cable I need is the one that will go from the receiver to the TV.
Hopefully this is right, sorry for all the stupid questions again!
I just purchased this sound system: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9257608&st=9257608&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1218070095253 and I want to make sure I have all the correct cables before I get it installed.
Basically, I will be hooking my PS3 and cable box to it and I believe that is all I need to hook to it because the TV would either run through the cable box or PS3, but I'm not positive. So, will I need an optical cable for the PS3 and cable box? And for the HDMI will I need two as well?
I'm just not quite sure what I will all need. When I purchased it they just said I need HDMI cables and optical cables, but I didn't know how many I would need so I didn't get anything yet. Looking at the diagram of the back of the DVD player it only appears to me to have one optical input and one HDMI input, so now I'm thinking I can only use it on one device. I suppose if I had to chose I'd go with the HDMI for the PS3 and optical for the cable box, but would prefer to be able to use everything for both devices, so I wasn't sure what to do and what I really need to get.
Also, I noticed they have actual cables for like PS3 and Xbox, do I need to get the optical cable for the PS3 specifically?
I do have two HDMI cables already, so I may only need the optical cable but just wanted to check.
Thanks so much!
