Cable reconnect

Jul 25, 2005 9:26AM PDT

I am new to broadband and need to know the following:

If I reformat my hard drive and reinstall XP home will my cable connection be recognized? If not can someone suggest reading sites to find out how to get it up and running again?

Thanks in advance

Unlikely.

I bet you'll have to install all those drivers and maybe that ISP setup disk.

Bob thank you for the reply could you specify which drivers you are referring to.
The ISP is Charter and after posting the question gave their technical support a call and he said unplug cable, reformat and install mb and nic drivers, turn off modem and restart after 1 minute and it should be recognized.
Charter tech initially set up the connection and did not use the install disk, I recall he called and registerd the mac address and don't know what else.

What drivers...

"e said unplug cable, reformat and install mb and nic drivers, turn off modem and restart after 1 minute and it should be recognized."

That's a little short. I usually have to fetch and install drivers for video, audio, printer, scanner, camera, web cam and what else. If your ISP is such that no install is required, then that's nice.

Nothing to worry about.

Cable connections aren't "recognized".
Once the NIC drivers are installed, your system will detect A connection, though your system doesn't know if it's cable, DSL, or satellite for that matter.

As for what the Charter rep told you, you don't have to disconnect anything. Format, reinstall, install your driver and software - no need to install anything from your ISP.
