Cable providers

Ok, so I've never had to get internet instaled in my Apt. until now. I want to do it with my cable, but thats about as far as I can get. I don't plan on having a land line for dial up. I need a reliable provider which is fast since I'll be using it for surfing the net for school. I can't figure out what the difference between the providers-i.e. time warner alone has 3 options of cable-road runner, road runner with aol, and earthlink. I know there are plenty more providers out there. Can anyone help tell me what they think is the best provider for the price (since providers change with area I live in Galveston, TX 77551). Thanks so much!
