You have to pay for TiVo.. It is not free + you would have to make sure to will work fully with your cable company, like on screen menu, VOD, PayPer view and other stuff.
The TiVo would mostlikly be better then what you would get from the cable comp., but I must say a hate the little noises TiVo's makes, but that is less then say Comcast DVR's and there ads placment all over the place... That really bugs me more... Buy this, buy that, gets old real fast.
I currently have cable (Comcast) with an analog TV. I am in the market for a digital LCD TV, but, until a very good deal arises, I have an analog TV. (I mention this in case this is something to consider when deciding what kind of device to get.) I want to get some kind of DVR but I don't know if I should get what my cable provider provides, or if I should go with TiVo. I checked, and the cable DVR is $15 per month after a one-time $20 installation fee. Thanks.
