Megxon

The Megxon and several other names were being marketed by a company called Tekxon Technology Inc out of Taipei, Taiwan.

They were manufactured by various companies in Taiwan and Tekxon was selling them in Australia and the US, mostly on auction sites.

You could also buy in quanity and get your own label (name) put on the cameras. So you could find the exact same camera with different names.

The Tekxon website has now disappeared from the internet.

Most people who came to this forum about Megxon have been people who were having problems with the cameras.

One person said the photo quality was not very good on their camera.

With Tekxon gone from the internet, I would say all of the support for the Magxon has disappeared too.

Any warranty you get will likely be worthless.

Have you ever heard of the old saying:

"buying a pig in a poke"

Tekxon, Megxon

I don't know about the Tekxon web site. I have no problem accessing them online at www.megxon.com. They have a good customer support (even though they are an Asian company) they do speak english. As far as service, you are right, you must send items back to the factory, or to a US dealer (who will send it to the factory) for service. I honestly have had great success with my camera. Of course that is after figuring out how to use it. (operating instructions are incomplete at best) But, being a technical engineer, I didn't have a very hard time with this one. I expected the slightly lower quality and instruction because of the extremely low price. I still think it is a good value, if you are patient and willing to figure it out.

By the way, what digicam did you buy and how much did it cost? My brother just bought a minolta which is similar to the 480C by Megxon. His pixal clarity is better than mine, but then again he paid $570 and I paid $199. You get what you pay for I guess.

You are right, the website is back up.

It is good to know that someone is supporting some of these Taiwan cameras.

I noticed on this site, they are being honest about the specifications. Some of the ads I have seen on eBay, border on fraud.

ebay

I know on Ebay they advertise this camera (the Megxon C500) as being 10mp. I dont really know much about digital cameras but from what I can tell is it really 5mp? Would anyone recommend this camera or does anyone else have any suggestions for a good quality camera that is not too expensive?

Inexpensive Camera

The cameras that are showing up on ebay are a mixed bag.

Have you ever heard the expression:
"buying a pig in a poke"

Most come with no users guide, or at most - a couple of sheets of paper.

If you have any problems with the camera you are in for a bumpy ride.

.........

You can get a good brand name camera for under $200
Canon A75
Canon A510
Nikon 3200

This camera is a 5 mp camera, not 10 mp. Some sellers take returns if the camera does not work, some don't. Make it a point to email the sellers on ebay and ask specific questions. Do you accept returns for faulty product? Is this in stock? What are the addresses of qualified service centers for this brand? If they don't respond, don't bid. If you get the answers (AND RESEARCH / CHECK OUT THE INFO THEY GIVE YOU) and it is on the "up and up", make your bid.

ebay honesty

You're right about ebay. They don't seem to regulate anything. They advertise all of these cameras as being 2X the resolution that they actually are. So people think they are getting an amazing deal. You have to do your research when buying online. You also have to be careful who you buy from on ebay. (If you live in the USA, don't buy from a Canadian seller)

The Megxon c500
Nov 9, 2005 5:24AM PST

I own one of these cameras. I bought it from a pawn shop for 85 bucks. It was a fairly good buy. It has a nice sleek design without bulkyness. it can record video and audio together and seperatly. it has a lot of picture settings.

A couple things i did not like about it...

battery life is not that great, and without a rechargable battery it can be a hassle.

Everything seems to take a little longer to function. such as the recharge time for the flash, also there is a slight delay when snaping pictures.

I bought this camera to just practice with and take pictures of simple occations. If you want to get a little more serious with your picture taking, i would not recommend this camera. I would spen an extra 100 bucks and get a little more quality like maybe a Canon.

This camera might be worth buying again if i got the same great deal. otherwise i'd look for another.

I read a lot of bad things about Megxon in the last few weeks and also EBAY,I have just bought the C500 and it is a good camera for what you pay for you can get a good manual off the web site and it isnt false advertising if people read specs first...its a 5MP.

I like my Megxon
Dec 8, 2005 7:46PM PST

My Megxon is great! I have brought it to the beach, dropped it many times, and brought it hiking. It's like a timex....keeps on ticking. Sure, the night shots are a little grainy without the flash, but so is every digicam. Simply put, all digicams suck in low light. I would buy another Megxon in a heartbeat.

saw new C500 cameras for sale in Goodwill
Jul 25, 2011 10:36AM PDT

I am no expert on cameras, but I saw a dozen brand new unsold Megxon C500 cameras in my local Goodwill store, for sale for $32 each. Can we draw any conclusions about the camera's quality from that?

If you had written 3.20 I would have written it's ok.

You find those that sell that toy to talk it up. Don't count on it doing a good job.

Do you have a Cell Phone Camera? Use that and save your 32 bucks.

Honestly!
