"c:\searchpage.html" won't go away

Apr 30, 2004 12:09AM PDT

Something happened between yesterday and today. When I loaded IE it changed my homepage to "C:\searchpage.html"

I have updated windows update, and live update on my norton software. I also ran a trial version of Adware 6.0 and Torjan Guarder, but it is not detecting any problems. I changed my "homepage" back to www.msn.com a million times but it continues to be a problem. Everytime I delete "C:\searchpage.html" seconds later it appears again. Also when I type in a url without "http://" it will not load the page I'm requesting. do you have any advice for me or recommendations on how to fix this problem. It's making me type for example "http://www.msn.com/" instead of just "www.msn.com"

This is the first sign of a problem since my computer was formatted about 2 months ago. Also, I checked the preferences on the file when I orginally noticed it and it was only created yesterday. any help would be extremely appreciated. Has anyone had this problem? What can I use to get rid of it?!?!

Thanks!

Neon, Try This...
Apr 30, 2004 5:44AM PDT

A good place to start will be to click on the link below and download, install, update, then run the programs in Bob Proffitt's post, specifically CWShredder,(a new link for CWShredder is available by clicking HERE Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy:

http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&start=0

Let us know the names of the viruses, spyware, and files that are detected.

After running ALL of the above programs and if the homepage hijacker is still causing problems, then please download "Hijackthis" from the link below, run the program, then post your Hijackthis log at the forum link below:

Hijackthis Download Link

Spyware Info Forum Link

Hope this helps.
