C Net so slow, used a mirror to it to see if it was alive..

by bently / August 16, 2006 2:55 AM PDT

After a reformat and reinstall of win xp home, C Net was taking 1 to 4 minutes to load or move from one page to another.

One of the reasons I reformatted was C Net was so slow before the reformat and I was concerned about malware that Ewido, AVG and Spybot could not find.

I had cookies set to ALLOW COOKIES BASED ON PRIVACY SETTINGS, (which was set on MEDIUM after fresh install) Using Mozilla 1.7.13

C Net was taking 1 to 3 minutes for any kind of move. Most other sites were taking a few seconds.

I also could NOT log in to C Net.

I changed COOKIES settings to ALLOW ALL COOKIES.

Now I can log in to C Net and the C Net pages load in a few seconds.

The problem loading CNet pages will occur after Cookies have been deleted and Privacy is not set to ''Accept'' First and Third party Cookies. In IE go to Tools > Internet Options > Privacy > Advanced > select ''First party cookies" and ''Third party cookies'' > OK > (Apply?) > OK. Then login to CNet.

Afterwards you can change the Advanced Pivacy Cookie handling to what ever you want. This also works on some other sites that require Cookies to be set wide open.

Hope this helps.
