Bypassing 1st boot device

Mar 26, 2004 11:20PM PST

For all versions of Windows, is it possible to bypass, via the keyboard, the 1st boot device (Floppy disk) to boot with the 2nd boot device (HD). I ask because a non-system floppy has been stuck at the drive and cannot be retrieved 'conveniently'. Thanks.

Re:Bypassing 1st boot device .. is not a Windows issue.

Windows hasn't booted yet, so the question is slightly incorrect.

What you want to change is the machine's BIOS settings for the boot order. There is no standard here, but I usually find it without much ado.

But don't look at Windows to change this.

Either:
1. Open the case, and disconnect the floppy drive. You might want to change it for a working one?
or:
2. Go into the BIOS (as soon as booting starts press esc or del of f10 or f1, or whatever applies with your computer) and set the boot sequence to first c:, then a: (possibly with the cd-rom in between). Exit with saving changes. Don't change anything else! It wouldn't harm to leave it that way; whenwas the last time you wanted to boot from a:?
