Bye-bye, Mayor Kilpatrick!

by Paul C / September 4, 2008 6:46 AM PDT

And good riddance; maybe the good people of Detroit will be better served in the future - although I somehow doubt it...

Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick pleaded guilty to felony charges Thursday in a sex scandal and will step down after months of defiantly holding onto his job leading the nation's 11th-largest city. He was ordered jailed for four months and fined $1 million.

The plea deal brings to an end a seven-months-long ordeal that led to felony charges against Kilpatrick and plunged the city, region and state into political chaos.

"I lied under oath," Kilpatrick said in court.
(Too bad, Mr Mayor, that you weren't the President - THEN you could have gotten away with lying about sex...)

He costed the city millions in lawyer fees and investigation in other kick-back schemes, whatnot's, so good riddance is right. To get to the point, "I lied" is more than any good citizen should take and Detroit never need this type of publicity to boot. Make him shovel the stuff he was dishing out to every one else. I certainly hope other city politicians get the drift. -----Willy Happy

Doubt much will change.

I lived there during the Cobo era, when 'God was in his heaven and all was right with the world.' Turns out it was as corrupt as any other Midwestern city, without the noise about it. I'll probably catch it from the PC police, but I see similarities with Africa: White folks own everything and act like it (highhanded and corrupt); when the Black folks take over they run the government the only way they've seen it done. Sad
