Question

Buzzing sound and crashing

Nov 9, 2016 6:24AM PST

Hello everyone
2 Years ago i bought new PC. Motherboard is Gigabyte 990XA UD3 with AMD FX 8350 with Hyper 212X cooler, 8 GB RAM (2x2GB and 1x4GB) With new GPU i bought recently RX470. I had a lot of problems lately but in first 2 years i didn't have any. So during gaming sessions my pc would just crash with no reason at all (temp is optimal).
During the crash i would hear constant buzzing sound and i was forced to do hard reset. After that it would run normally but it could occur again. After few more crashes like this PC stopped working entirely. Insted of normal speaker beep i would hear beep after beep for a 10-15 seconds. I took it to the service and it seems like BIOS crashed. It was working fine for a last month, but 2 days ago crashing started again. This time when it crash in booting there is BSOD with message that "winload.exe" can't be reached (can't remember the exact error code). But no format is required becuse once i am in BIOS i can normally boot up Windows.
Does anyone think that it might be mother boboard problem ? Is it best to get a new one ?
One more thing is that with 8 GB of RAM it shows me 5,96 GB as available. One guy i knew set something in BIOS with some 9 9 9 27 and it worked but i am not that much experienced to do so.

What i tried to do with main problem :

Format windows couple times
Restarting BIOS
Rearranging cables to make sure everything is fine
Tried different PSU

Thank for answer Happy

Answer
Do more research on that board.
Nov 9, 2016 7:50AM PST

Every time I do this for folk I find other reports of crashing so I'm off to shop a board as well as make sure all is perfect with the PC. We'll take a look for supported RAM (all must be same make/model) as well as a check of the PSU and the SPECCY report.

Be sure your PC builder does this for you.

Board
Nov 9, 2016 9:34AM PST

SPECCY report was clean from my point of view, or i actually don't know what i need to look for. The RAM is 2x2 GB Kingstone 1600 MHz and 4 GB slot is HyperX Fury also 1600 GB. It seems that the RAM is not working in Dual Channel , but a single one. I made sure that RAM is placed in correct slots for that but it is not an issue.
"Type DDR3
Size 8192 MBytes
Channels # Single
DRAM Frequency 669.7 MHz
CAS# Latency (CL) 9 clocks
RAS# to CAS# Delay (tRCD) 9 clocks
RAS# Precharge (tRP) 9 clocks
Cycle Time (tRAS) 25 clocks
Bank Cycle Time (tRC) 33 clocks"
( Should i go in BIOS and place Cycle Time on 27 maybe ?

I am actually scared to go play something online becuse of the crashing. Sometimes when it crash i can't reach to windows for a 15 min. PC is just turned off and any button don't do any action.
I researched mobo and it seems like there are also guys who have same problems with buzz sound, but nobody offered the right fix. Is there any way that QFlash can help me with this ?

Sorry but mixing memory has been a source of trouble.
Nov 9, 2016 9:38AM PST

So that's a fail here. We never warranty mixes like that.

If you want another look at the Speccy, publish is and don't forget to share the PSU make and model as that is not in the reports.

https://www.piriform.com/docs/speccy/using-speccy/publishing-a-speccy-profile-to-the-web

You can also test if it's the audio or audio driver by disabling the onboard audio and retesting.

Why? Because a lot of beginners install Windows but do not have a driver install plan after that. They'll hope for the best or think the driver is OK if the device manager is OK. This is a well beat up area so I only mention and don't do driver plans any longer. That's for the maker to write up.

This is whole result from SPECCY.

Me (postmaker) am also my own PC Maker, and i never needed any help unless i was unable to solve it on my onw. As a Computer Technician i know a lot and i learned a lot on my own. That Buzz and Crashing is only thing i never couldn't solve.

The PSU i am using is CoolerMaster 600 with active PFC (Model RS-600-ACAB-D3).
Untill this day i build up so many PCs i can't even think of a number, but my own is making me most of the troubles.

About memory mixing. It worked before I reseted BIOS.

In short.
Nov 9, 2016 11:39AM PST

If you lost your BIOS settings only you know what you did before. Mixing RAM has resulted in too many issues, so our office won't and won't support a mixed system.

The PSU looks great (unless it's years old.)

Speccy notes.

1. It reports single channel and 8GB. Strange until I dive into the slots used. Yup. You'll risk memory issues with 3 sticks. I've noted it twice about mixing so I'll leave this up to it's maker (you.)

2. There's some USB drive plugged in. To avoid issues, unplug when not in use.

3. AutoKMS is a trojan. All bets are off in regard to this system. It's been compromised.
https://www.google.com/search?q=AutoKMS

4. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3901#bios and the Speccy report don't line up. I'd try to get the latest in there.

5. Voltage. The entire section looks off. When I see this I get out my Volt meter to see if it's in spec. If the BIOS battery is years old we replace them. Only your consumer and new techs don't replace old bios batteries.

6. ATI Radeon (TM) RX 470 Graphics
That's fairly new. Did you try DDU to get a clean driver install for this card?

"autokms.exe is a Trojan.Enumerate virus. keygen.exe is a process registered as a backdoor vulnerability which may be installed for malicious purposes by an attacker allowing access to your computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data."

That may explain a lot of the internet connections in the Speccy report.

-> TL;DR. Trojan found. Don't expect this to run well.

1. Suggested solution ? Buy new RAM ? Becuse tomorrow i am going to city and i might get something new for myself to help me out of the troubles.
2. USB is plugged in to save all the data i need later on before i do clean set-up again (the moment of making report was the one when i was copying all the important files i need on flash drive).
3. autoKMS is installed on purpuse and it is allowed by Microsoft Defender on my knowledge for academic research i am doing. Before i installed it was all the same like now.
4. Updating BIOS ? F13 would do fine ?
5. What should i change? BIOS battery is old as the mobo (2 years and 3 months now)
6. This is latest component i bought for my pc (last GPU i had was R7 260X and i wasn't happy about it). Yeah, always doing clean installation after new hardware.

I know that you are busy and i am sorry if i bother you with this, but thank you so much so far. Happy

All your choice here.
Nov 9, 2016 12:17PM PST

1. I'd not buy ram until it's stable with the base pair.
2. I guess you are second guessing me. I have a lot of reasons to write this machine is in sad shape. If you want to not remove easy things, that's up to you.
3. AutoKMS is what it is. If you want to risk it all, and have a horrible Windows experience, all your choice. No one will stop you.
4. Should be fine. The BIOS usually includes more automatic memory settings or corrects odd crashes. If it comes down to the motherboard, I usually give the latest one last shot. It's free, I can always go back.
5. As a PC builder, the Volt meter is part of your gear. As to the BIOS battery these are 25 cents here (we buy in bulk) so if you don't think it's worth that much, your choice.
6. Good to read. I take it these issues persist with old and new GPUs.

I don't want to sound as if I'm pushy or mean but there's a trojan in there and you have mixed RAM. A recipe for pain. But nothing compared to the US Presidential elections.

Thanks for all
Nov 9, 2016 12:31PM PST

Tomorrow i will be doing clean installation of Windows with new BIOS update. I can always go back with old pc i have for reserve cases in case i *** something up. Afternoon i might buy a new set of RAM, if the problem will still be there.
AutoKMS is not problem in my point of view, but i already removed it.
Yup, issue was persistant with old GPU as well.
I'll let you know what happened tomorrow when i try things up.

I neglected to note a thing.
Nov 9, 2016 1:27PM PST

Every once in a while we'll fix up a PC and the owner can crash it on demand. Here's a recent find. The owner had a game and in that game it would crash.

Researching that game we found reports of it crashing on some GPUs. So it was none of the above. Priors at https://www.google.com/search?q=crash+with+anti+aliasing+filters

I take it you did that sort of research.

Research
Nov 9, 2016 2:20PM PST

Of course i did research. I wouldn't post anything here unless i don't feel helpless.
Newest thing i am trying is to try is one type of the RAM at the time. So far 4 GB plate is not causing any problem but ofc, 4 GB is too low to go on advanced games. Most advanced i own is ARMA 3 and so far it was great. I borrowed from a friend Mafia 3 and during that game after 1 or 2 hours game crash together with PC. Good friend Skyrim lasted 16 hours straight running on Ultra settings. At this point i am thinking that even after all this crashes it might still RAM be the cause of it. So time for upgrade Happy
Anti aliasing is connected with GPU, but GPU is not showing any sings of problems.

Connected with GPU?
Nov 9, 2016 2:36PM PST

The BSODs were tough to nail down and no offense but the new techs tend to think that GPU issues, BSOD and settings don't matter since "GPU."

You have some very good reasons for this PC to crash. Once in a while a client will want it to be a specific thing. The only time I can be that specific is to replace the PC. There, it's fixed.

I had hope to go over the speccy and then work what looks off but I'm getting the feeling you want more. Or want it not to be this or that.

Fix
Nov 9, 2016 3:04PM PST

I am trying to get this fixed becuse i only have 100€ savings. So far not employed anywhere so no income. I would get a new PC, trust me on that, but i just don't have other options. I really hope that you do understand that life in Croatia sometimes isn't beautiful . New PC...at least i have something to dream about tonight Grin

So far...
Nov 11, 2016 3:33AM PST

All right. I replaced RAM with same type i have (HyperX Fury Red 4 GB + New HyperXFury Black 8GB 1886MHz). They are set on same Latency and same Voltage and they work on 1600 MHz in Dual Channel. Error is still persistant. I have a hunch that it's fcked up in Boot sequence. Now going to do clean install of Windows 8.1 (same i have been) with all that i need. Error is "Error code 0x000000e winload.exe " and "bootmgr" . Also after clean instalation i am going to manual repair with bootrec commands.
Any new advice ?

Re: replaced RAM
Nov 11, 2016 4:12AM PST

I wouldn't mix different sticks. Try it with 2 x 4 or 1 x 8 alone. A clean install of Windows 8.1 with the same versions of all drivers as when it all worked fine for 2 years doesn't harm at all.

If it persists after the clean install or Windows and it's not RAM (check with memtest86), it's something else on the motherboard (board itself or CPU) or the GPU or the hard disk.
If the error messages don't give a clue, run diagnostics or start replacing things.

Format time
Nov 11, 2016 4:22AM PST

The mixed RAM worked for 2 years. It it will continue i will only left 8GB inside.
For last year and a half i used Windows 10 and error happen to show on at the end. The guy at a store and service told me that processor is last one to go. And board is still new. Also new BIOS will be up after clean installation for stability.
Since i use SSD drive only for windows it might be that something is wrong there.
In 30 min i will let you know what happens post installation of clean windows.

2 years.
Nov 11, 2016 8:50AM PST

That's not a good sign. When we see this and fixing the items I noted doesn't cure it, the motherboard is next on the replacement list.

I don't know why but this happens a lot on AMD boards. Out guess is the other issue about heat in the case ages the boards faster.

New begginings
Nov 11, 2016 9:34AM PST

So, with 5 hours straight running all the tests, gaming most of time, no error so far. I'm thinking that it might not be error in hardware. What if PlaysTV (software i was using to record gameplay) was causing all that ?
After some googleing i see that this happened to others while having PlaysTV.
I will try some newer games to update everything.
So far i didn't Q Flashed BIOS (kinda afraid to mess up everything). But this set of RAM is running great.
Also it might happen to a lot of AMD boards , yeah. For 1 whole year i was using some crappy broken CPU fan that overheated a lot (to 90 degrees celsius). After replacing that a less often i was greeted with errors while playing. Tough at first it was causing troubles but for now, only time will tell.
