Buzz Out Loud Show page

Feb 22, 2006 2:00PM PST

Hey y'all,

We're going to put together a Buzz Out Loud show page. I know a lot of people have asked for this.

We'll have links to past shows, links to the boards here, newsletter sublink, Frappr, Flickr, etc.

What all would you like to see on the BOL show page?

Just a thought
Feb 22, 2006 2:09PM PST

For the die-hard BOL fans, maybe have some behind-the-scenes stuff about how much is involved in doing BOL on a daily basis.

Perhaps maybe even a BOL cam?

Just my two cents.

Some ideas
Feb 22, 2006 2:22PM PST

I'm really not a huge fan of the forum style here but I guess the new page will still be part of CNET so we're stuck with this?

How about a del.icio.us link where we can see what you guys are checking out. I look at the TWiT one every day or two http://del.icio.us/twit

To see what TMV are checking out, a la TWiT, and Kevin and Alex from Diggnation.

Pictures
Feb 22, 2006 2:22PM PST

I'd like to see pictures. Maybe, if time permitted, you could do a video tour, I'd like to see the walk from the office, to the studio, the publishing. That would be really cool. Like Terry said, just some behind the scenes stuff.

Put a link at the top of CNET.com for a link to the podcast central page.

And...

Your own URL. There's too many clickthru's to get to anything in CNET.

Distillation and Community
Feb 22, 2006 4:02PM PST

I would like to see a week's worth of links from one or two major items you discuss on each daily podcast. So there would be no more than 5 to 10 on there each week. I think I'm sick of most BLAHgh sites - things you constantly reference on BOL. Having said that the reason I listen to BOL is because...

Presumably Buzz Out Loud is distilling ALL the crap from ALL the tech BLAHgs and geek sites down to what seems to be most important. So on this page, distill it even further with the links to the best of the best.

Also, more community stuff on this page would be cool . The Photoshop contest was one such. Maybe funny songs and cartoons specific to you guys from your more artistic listeners could be featured on there. Just goofy stuff like that which makes us want to visit.

As Andy said, behind-the-scenes stuff is also fun, especially for those out there who aren't around the media industry and know how it gets done.

bah... sorry. I hate having to come up with subject lines in order to post. "Distillation and Community"????? Ugh, even I wouldn't read my post with that stupid subject line. What was I thinking...

But there are worse titles Wink

We could have a whole thread of just bad titles. I too hate having to come up with subject lines for every message. I really, really, really, really wish c|net had some other kind of forum software. You know, one that worked and had features comparable to every other board out there. Wink

It's funny that this is being mentioned ...
Feb 23, 2006 6:18AM PST

In the comics this past Sunday, the comic "For Better or Worse" had featured a bunch of people having a meeting, saying a lot of those buzzwords, including "paradigm" and "thinking outside the box."

What was funny about it was when someone jumped up in the middle of the meeting and shouted "Bingo!"

Have a laugh:

Polls
Feb 22, 2006 11:48PM PST

How bout a daily or weekly poll putting 4 or 5 topics up against each other and allowing the BOL listeners what topic you guys could do an In Depth discussion on?

great idea, but . . .
Feb 23, 2006 1:40AM PST

. . . I don't think you should limit it to just "what should we do an in-depth discussion on", though that's a great idea. You could poll on lots of things -- will Apple switch to Windows, is anti-virus software necessary, would you subscribe to an Amazon music download store -- those are topics just from this week alone.

another quick suggestion

You should have a link to the email address and the phone number to call. That should be on the newsletter, too.

Tech Trivia from Tom?
Feb 23, 2006 2:28AM PST

Maybe this would be right up Tom's alley. It might be fun to have a tech trivia question on there, except somebody there would have to come up with one each day.

Some examples:

1) Who is credited with the original human interface design of the Macintosh?

2) Who laid the groundwork for what would become the internet and what was it called?

3) How many times in one podcast can John C. Dvorak interrupt somebody? (hint: it's somewhere in the range of how many times he plugs all his junk).

Answers:

1) Jeff Raskin
2) Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) and ARPANET
3) At least a dozen

A follow-up question:

3a. How much spam does John C. Dvorak receive?
3b. What is John C. Dvorak's website?

Happy
