General discussion

BUZZ OFF BOL forum members!!!

Mar 31, 2006 5:40AM PST

One thing I've noticed is that if I post questions on this forum for help, I get 1 reply if I'm lucky. In the past week I've posted two questions on the forums, hoping that fellow BOL fans could hook me up with some advice or answers, and from two posts, I've got a total of 2 answers (1 each). That's just lame. I noticed that another person posted a question about firefox on the Mac and got no help. Everybody has an opinion when something's anti-Apple or a DRM issue, but nobody's got love for his fellow BOL amigo. Disgusting.

ps. I recognize that there are other cnet forums to post questions to, but some people don't have time to sort this stuff out and make sure that they are in the "proper" forum. Plus, I like the varying knowledge held by this community in general. Come on, help a brother out, won't you?

Buzz Off To You
Mar 31, 2006 5:55AM PST

Do some research on your own. This is a forum and not an advice column. If you don't have time to post items in the right place, then it is your own lazy fault. The internet is full of info and you need to take the time to sort it out. I think you deserve more than a buzz off, but I guess it's the strongest word you can use here.

No need to be rude

I don't know about anybody else, but I always try to avoid duplicate information, while also being limited to my own pool of knowledge.

Here's why I didn't post to your posts (I believe these are the two that you are referring to):
Backup solution- I don't back things up, but I would've suggested the external HD just like the other person did.
Multimedia slideshow stuff- No experience. Plus, I would've mentioned something about iLife, as somebody else already had.

I try to be helpful whenever I can, but I can't help in all situations.

We deserve a bit of an admonishment

Hey Ajurina,

Our apologies for letting a fellow BOL member hanging. What were your questions specifically? We'll try again.

Sometimes, items just drift down a bit too quickly or we just don't know the answer to it so don't post a reply.

Try not to be too harsh in your criticism of us. I think many of us on here enjoy answering when we can.

HEY!!!
Mar 31, 2006 6:51AM PST

Sorry, for not having the answers!

I have asked for help here before and when people know the answer, they help out. Sometimes people just don't know about a topic to offer advice.

However, when it?s a topic like DRM, you don't need so many facts, you can get by with opinions.

So yeah it's not nice getting no replies and I think we do try and help - I know I feel bad when I see a question with no answers where I can't offer an answer.

Please Note
Mar 31, 2006 8:38AM PST

We all do our best to try and help everyone out. Like Kevin (I think) said, we're always eager to help. At least I know I am.

However, with that said, like any forum it is a good idea to do your homework before you ask the question and while your question is "in qeue" (until everyone sees it and has time to reply).

Also, make sure to do a search on the forum, sometimes the question has already been answered and beaten to death, some people don't feel like responding again.

Hope you stick around!

In addition...

It has been said before(I believe by AndyinTN) that sometimes there are a lot of posts coming through at any given time, which means that a post could very well be pushed off of the first page quickly. Not saying that that could be the case, but is a possibilty. Other reasons have already been stated. As far as I know, it has nothing to do with you personally (unless you did something not good, but I doubt it), or any obvious topic bias' here. While there are some wild forums out there, this one is clearly better than those. Ease back, take your arms and wrap them around yourself, and squeeze. Then let's see if someone can help your particular problem.

Nah, I don't think so.

It's not that hard, or time consuming to find the right place to ask the questions. You can even search forums. I think you sound lazy and cranky.

Cranky I AM
Mar 31, 2006 12:26PM PST

I've been spending all week researching stuff, to no avail. Then one day it hits me, "Why don't I post it on the BOL Message board? I'm sure I'll find a ton of people who will lead me down the right road to what I'm looking for." I submit my post, track it, and several hours? Days? Nothing in my inbox. I come back here to find that my post has been buried six pages down and I'm lucky to find at least one person who might have given me something. You people took no time at all to pile on me with angry replies to this post though.

I'm not complaining to people who don't know anything about my questions, I'm complaining to those who just ignore the post because its not worth their time to comment on it, since they need to be ready to start slobbering and drooling replies for the next anti-Mac thread to start.

Tom says that we can come here to find answers, and both Tom and Molly have confirmed that the forums are a good place to come. I'm just finding fault with their suggestions, since nobody seems interested to help out. Whatever, maybe I can request some help if I subliminally post it within a thread entitled, "Macs stink" or "May DRM Live Forever!" Haha! End of Rant.

Two Things
Mar 31, 2006 3:49PM PST

*NOTE* I am placing this here (or trying to place it here again) because SOME HOW it got posted out there!

First:

I looked at the question that you asked about video editing/slideshow creation software, I had never saw that question until you brought it up tonight. I think the suggestions the people gave you there are good answers. I will shortly add my response.

Second:

If something you have submitted gets down to a page or two out of focus without even being answered, you might want to bump the thread up. Simply reply to your message inside of the thread and just say ''Hey, this got to page 4 (or whatever) and I would really like to know if anyone can help me...etc, etc, etc'' Some forums consider bumping to be bad, but I think everyone here will agree that in a case like this, it is perfectly acceptable.

thanks, and light apologies

I have to state, that I didn't know about the ability to search the threads until AFTER i posted my complaint. For this, I apologize for my ignorance and rash complaints. Second, I appreciate those who have taken the effort, despite these complaints to help me anyways. It certainly shows your quality of character. Your advice and your patience have been greatly appreciated.
