Is that 1080p gaming on 3 or more screens? Tomshardware noted the i5 was up to that so I'd not change that part. I think you're looking at a pair of Nvidia 970's here.

The motherboard has 1 PCIe x16 slots so it looks like the second slot is x4. I'd consider a new motherboard with dual x16 slots to maximize the GPUs.

So a pair of GPU cards and be sure the PSU is up to the task.

The note from Tom's about
Sep 14, 2015 1:42PM PDT

Tomshardware noted driving 3 GPUs at full tilt on a second gen i5 2500. Here's the passage on that.

"Our tests demonstrate fairly little difference between a $225 LGA 1155 Core i5-2500K and a $1000 LGA 2011 Core i7-3960X, even when three-way graphics card configurations are involved. It turns out that memory bandwidth and PCIe throughput don't hold back the performance of existing Sandy Bridge-based machines. "

You have the 2500 and are only looking at 2 GPUs, not 3.

As to your second GPU I really want to ditch the 460. It was a power hog back then and to avoid trouble I'd want to get a new pair.
