Buying Monitor for Tradeshow Display

Jul 13, 2006 6:03AM PDT

Hey everyone,
I was recently put in charge of selecting a monitor to be used as a presentation display at an upcoming tradeshow for my company. Unfortunately, I know nothing about monitors. I am looking for a monitor between 24 and 27 inches with a resolution of at least 1280 x 1024. It must have a VGA input and no speakers. I was looking at the Dell 2407wfp but am concerned by the 90 degree viewing angle as it might be difficult for people passing by to see the display.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have to present my recommendations ASAP, so any help would be appreciated

The viewing angle is..

Likely spec'd but it doesn't seem to be big concern as I've been at trade shows for years and at that size one may expect to be withing a reasonable distance for viewing.

Make up your spreadsheet and include the viewing angle in the criteria lists.

you need to look at the Dell (and any monitor) in person if you're concerned about the viewing angle. keep in mind that if you go beyond the viewing angle, the image won't completely disapper so anyone interested will still see an image (albeit dimmer).

24" isn't that really that big for a trade show. have you considered an lcd tv instead?

their resolution is typically about 1366x768. for about $1200 you can get a 32" model from a top brand -- less than $1000 for third-tier manufacturer. $1500 will get you the westinghouse 37" lcd with 1920x1080 resolution. now that's an eye catcher! when you're not using the monitor for demos, just switch it over the dvd input and play your company's video promotions.

an lcd tv can usually work fine with the DVI output of most PCs. if you're concerned about compatibility, just get a new video card -- most include DVI and HDTV output. laptops of course pose a challenge since they only support VGA output.
