Buying first video camera...

by ladybastilla / November 25, 2009 2:13 AM PST

Hello! Happy I am preparing to try my hand at doing some video stuff and am looking at various possabilities as far as getting started. My friends are telling me that since I am just checking out doing video and I am also in the market for an MP3 player that I may want to go ahead and get an iPod Nano 5G since it has one built in. I have researched this and while it seems okay for what I am doing a lot of the reviews I have read regarding it say that the camera placed is awkward and that a lot of people have trouble using it because of this. That does not seem like a good thing to pair with someone using one for the first time.

Alternatively, I could get some other form of MP3 player and some other form of camera. What do I intend to use my camera for?

-- Recording holiday events
-- Recording silly things my pets do
-- Recording stuff while on vacation
-- Recording stuff at karaoke (I sing)
-- Recording stuff (like video reviews or a video blog) that will appear on YouTube.

I'm looking for something to get started with and see how I like this. Since it is more of a hobby that I am trying out for fun then something I am madly passionate about (at least at this point) I do not want to spend hundreds of dollars on it. (If I get into it that might change but that is not the point I am at.) Any advice or suggestions would be welcome. Thank you.
