Buying first camcorder for travel use on a

Any camcorder buying advice would be great. Im going travelling this summer and would like to record my travels, which I would like to edit with FCP. It would be good to get some decent footage, however as I'm saving for my trip I cant really afford to spend a huge amount on it. Hence my

Thanks, your blog was a good read and talks about the exact requirements I'm looking for. I have been looking at Panasonics (they seem to have really good optical zoom and within my budget! Although as I'm not going to be taking a tripod, I also would be fine with a camcorder with an optical zoom from 35x) I have also been looking at the Sony Handycams. Although the trouble I'm getting at the moment from reading Amazon reviews is people complaining about image quality, what with HD moving in. I just don't have the funds to stretch to HD! I also want to edit my travel footage on my Mac.
