The FX7's pro sibling is the HVR-V1U. The main differences are the V1U has XLR audio inputs and some additional firmware for more "modes". The FX7 sports a 1/8" audio-in jack that can be converted with an XLR adapter from juicedLink or BeachTek.

The HVR-HD1000 is essentially a consumer cam (compare the lens and imaging chip to the V1U, FX7 and consumer HDR-HC9) in a shoulder mount form factor.

With the superior low light capabilities, I would take the FX7 in a heartbeat. You can make a shoulder mount (or buy a SpiderBrace).
