Buying a new Macbook Pro

Oct 11, 2010 12:49PM PDT

I've pretty much made up my mind about buying a new Macbook Pro 15" and will mostly buy somewhere between thanksgiving and christmas.

I just wanted to know - is this is a good time to buy? Are there any indications that Apple might come out with a new series soon? I don't need a new notebook urgently so I can wait for some time. But I also don't want to wait unnecessarily for not-so-significant changes, and lose any deals or discounts I might get. Hence the query.

Thanks in advance.

MAc book pro 15 is a great choice, there are some speculations that they are releasing a new model on 2011 I'm not sure not sure what month they will release it.

Nobody knows

Nobody knows. Lord Steve loves his secrets, and people who reveal those secrets tend to suffer his wrath. I can't say for sure it's true, but rumor has it the whole reason nVidia cards are an option on Macs is because once upon a time ATI let slip some new product details, and His Steveness was not amused.

If there were a refresh, it's unlikely it would come between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's always possible there will be a surprise announcement like the redesigned Mac Mini, but odds are they would have announced it at the same time as the new MacBook Airs if they had anything planned. So odds are you won't see anything until sometime in the Feb-March time frame.

Apple divides up the year into three segments: Early, Mid, and Late. They used to do Spring and Fall, but partners in the southern hemisphere, who have reversed seasons, got upset. We've already entered Late 2010 by their schedule, and the last refresh was Mid-2010, so I'd bank on an Early 2011 refresh. Some time before spring. But it's also possible they'll skip that too, and it'll be Mid-2011 or even Late 2011. The Mac Pro went like a year and a half without a refresh.

I want to buy a new MBP 17" w/ the i7 chip option, but from what I also hear there may be a new model coming out. BUT someone told me since the 17" MBP was given the new i7 chip option, there won't be a n update to the MBP line, I'm also confused!!! What to do, what to do, oh the horror.

There is always

There is always a new model "just around the corner", it's just a matter of when exactly. At some point you either have to pull the trigger and buy one or you are left forever waiting.
