General discussion

buying a netbook

Nov 18, 2009 10:37PM PST

I have been researching netbooks for some time now, but I hear different things everywhere I look. I am looking for a netbook to just surf the web and play youtube video and my itunes. Any suggestions on what netbook is best?
Here is the list of what I have been researching....
ASUS 1005HA mu17/vu1x/pu1x
ACER
DELL
HP

Just looking for some insight to help my decision, I have heard good and bad news for all of the above. I just want something that will be fast and portable.

I won't call netbooks fast.

But all do what you asked.

Why aren't they fast?

I know that they will all do the same job, however, is one better than the other?
When you say netbooks aren't fast, what do you mean. What are you comparing it too?

I'm comparing it to my work machines.

But back to your discussion. You need to do more work. Make a spreadsheet and put some columns in it such as MAKE+MODEL, COST and so on.

You can easily dismiss the highest cost machine so that's one down and then you find the columns you want to fill in and go get those numbers.

I think I'm seeing people either buy a netbook in a hour or spend a few months researching.

For me I have a very specific use for the netbook so it works for that. But given I can get a Core 2 Duo machine for 399 on Black Friday why would I want another?

So since I am just looking for something to carry around surfing the net and listening to music it really doesn't matter which one, they are all compariable.

Thanks!

Hours of run time on battery power. My Acer gets over 4 when running our demos.
