Question

Buying a Galaxy S4 in 2015

Feb 1, 2015 9:35AM PST

So the local Bestbuy is offering the Galaxy S4 for 1 dollar on a contract renewal. I'm not a fan of the larger screens and larger bodies of the newer phones. In two years, if I were to get a Galaxy S4, would the phone be nothing more than a paper-weight or would it still be a good running phone? I know the phone was released two years ago, but they seem to be selling an awful lot of them. i just dont' want to get a phone and be ticked off in a year because it would feel ancient. I know my wife went though that with an Iphone 4, and I don't want to be in her shoes!

But let's see how much that yearly deal will cost you.

I see it used on Glyde for 280ish and monthly plans on Ting at some variable rate so is it something you feel you can toss in 2 years?

I probably could toss it in two years, or it would just turn into my kids' phone/music player/web access then. I'm not doing the edge program, and my monthly contract wouldn't change, if I got the s4, the S5 or even an Iphone.

It's OK as a MP3 player, barely passable as a Web browser but makes a find alarm clock.

Not a fan?

So your S4 isn't great at the age it is now? That's my concern about buying one and then in another two years it will have two years of usage, but will be a four year old phone overall...

Well, it was great when new.

Times change, the machine doesn't so as you install newer OSes it may feel slower. That's what some gripe about the iPhone 4 and the latest iOS. It still works, just they want it to be as spiffy as a new model.

Yes, Samsung galaxy s4 is a 2 year old phone. Its time for me to get a new phone after having my samsung galaxy s4. Ive had it for 2 years and it works well. If you only use your phone to call someone, then I think that there is no problem in purchasing a S4 for $1. No need to spend $300+ on a new phone if you dont really care about phones and technologies.
