Without a price range I cannot suggest a particular camera.

I would only look at brands that are well known, and currently developing new cameras.
Canon
Fujifilm
Nikon
Olympus
Panasonic
Samsung
Sony

Having the highest number of megapixels (MP) is not a good guideline.
Somewhere around 12MP is the sweet spot.

Any camera you buy will have some digital zoom, but don't use it. It degrades the pictures.
Optical zoom does not degrade the picture and ranges from 3X to about 50X.
Don't buy more zoom than you need on a daily basis.
More optical zoom adds weight and cost.
3X is sufficient for most people.

Physical size:
Remember a very small camera will have a very small battery.
Battery size determines how many photos you get on a charge.

Happy Hunting
