Bush's Military Records Fail to Dispel AWOL Charges...

Jul 24, 2004 6:54AM PDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Some of President Bush's missing Air National Guard records during the Vietnam War years, previously said to be destroyed, turned up on Friday but offered no new evidence to dispel charges by Democrats that he was absent without leave.

His whereabouts during his service as a pilot in the Texas Air National Guard in the United States during the Vietnam War have become an election-year issue. Bush's Democratic presidential challenger, John Kerry, is a decorated Vietnam War veteran.

The Pentagon, which had announced two weeks ago that the payroll records had been accidentally destroyed, blamed a clerical error for previous failure to find them.

In May 1972, Bush moved to Alabama to work on a political campaign and, he has said, to perform his Guard service there for a year. But other Guard officers have said they have no recollection of ever seeing him there.

Bush was the son of a U.S. congressman at a time when National Guard service was seen as a way for the privileged to avoid being drafted for Vietnam War duty.

Sure can... - Edward O'Daniel

Nice try. But your general links don't provide what I asked for. Mark made the claim that:

kerry some LIAR though calls all vietnam vets killers - Mark G

So I asked for a link that clearly states that JF Kerry called ALL Vietnam Vets killers. I don't want hearsay statements like Mark's. I want a true statement that was direct from the horse's mouth...

Are you trying to convince us that none of the Vietnam Vets were killers???

Kerry's self-inflicted wound, Blake...
Jul 25, 2004 6:48PM PDT

Blake, the superior that originally turned down Kerry's purple Heary application said the shrapnel was from an American weapon, and Kerry had just fired one.
Blake, are you saying that his superior lied? If not, he ran out on his men and went home based on the strength of a self-imposed wound.
O.K. Blake, it's easy to deal with, all Kerry has to do is to release all of his military service records, including ALL of the Purple Heart information. But he won't and continues to hide it, Blake. Tell us why, Blake.

despite records already procudes that have already proven his serving his time honorably. In addition, various people have confirmed his presence.

Kerry on the other hand has posted AARs on his site that are not his but those of other officers although Kerry claims them as his own.

Your lack of any knowledge of the military and especially reserve components really shows through AGAIN.

They don't need to. He received an Honorable Discharge, something an AWOL soldier cannot do. Tell us, just how much time did you spend in the military? If you were in at all you should know this.

As Commander in Chief, his military record continues.

So far, as military duties go, it's quite illustrious.
