recent dell Inspiron 530 purchase, w/ VISTA home premium, when burning downloaded video clips (that are saved on the hard drive) to DVD, It won't play on my Panasonic CD/DVD player, that is hooked to my TV. various types of clips...ie, DivX, AVI, FTV, etc...(which is FLASH video?). blank dvd's are TDK DVD -R. The panasonic owner's manuel says it will play dvd-r??? What can I do to view these on my panasonic/tv. thanks.

Try DVD+R and DVD FLICK

I can't explain why DVD FLICK seems to make good DVDs. Maybe you'll tell us why.

Panasonic DVD player

Sorry but Panasonic DVD players are NOT equipped to play computer files (divx, mpeg, avi). Panasonic has always made incompatible DVD players. I gave mine to my daughter. The early models didn't even play VCDs. I purchased a JVC model that plays just about every type of file. Also Pioneer DVD players are compatible with most pc files burned on DVD+R and DVD-R.

thanks for getting back to me...

So, the only way to watch these on my T.V. is to purchase a new JVC or PIONEER player??? I've been trying to find a software that would somehow convert them???? my new dell has ROXIO on it, but I don't use it...because when I click on the browse button...I can find the clips
that are on the HD, weather they are in my doc.'s or Video's, it tells me I don't have permission to access these file, I'm the owner,
and Administrator, I've gone to the permission page and selected EVERYONE...but it still does it...I think this may stem from when I transfered files from my old dell running XP. Any suggestions will be appreciated, and thanks again, for my first question.

Panasonic DVD

I believe Phillips makes a cheap DVD player that will play divx files. Divx.com has a free converter that will convert mpeg and avi files to divx format. FLV files are a different story. Koyote has a FLV converter to mpeg. So you have to convert FLV to mpeg then to divx..

JVC

My JVC is a home theater model THD-50. JVC makes a stand-alone DVD player that will play divx, and other pc files. Also Philips makes a inexpensive model that will play divx but i'm not sure of other types of files.

Do you know if...

I'm in the market for a new 5-disc player, don't remember the brand I saw but...it said that it plays MPEG-4. Will this also recognize
earlier versions of the mpeg format.....ie, regular mpeg's???

Mpeg4

As far as I know a dvd player that can play mpeg4 should play the other versions. Try to buy JVC or Pioneer. They are the most compatible of the major companies. Good luck and let me know what model you are thinking of buying....victor
