Burning data to a CD-RW on a IMac Superdrive

by jimnjack / November 17, 2003 9:15 AM PST

Does anyone know what Error Code 3 means? I put a CD-RW into my drive, it shows up on my desktop. I drag a couple of my Photo Shop, Illustrator files onto the CD. I drag the CD icon down to the trash can, which turns into a BURN icon, begins burning and then out pops my CD and a window opens on the desktop which says this action has caused an error code 3. I've changed my write speed to a #4. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. (I have been able to burn music to CD-R's).

I've already been there, but thanks.

I just keep finding the same directions on every HELP site I go to. Just can't figure out what an Error Code 3 is when trying to burn my CD on my IMac Superdrive. Should be easy as pie. Any other ideas?

If Apple won't tell, try another drive. These items fail with annoying regularity. Before the swap, try:

1. CD Lens cleaner.
2. Other make of media.

I'll try that.

I'm going to try just a plain CD-R first and then get another pack of CD-RW's. Wouldn't that be a wonderful solution if it works. Thanks.

Have you tried formatting CD-RW?

I don't know if this will help, but you can format a CD-RW (rewritable...) using the Disk Utility application in your Utilities folder. If you are having a media problem, formating the disc may make it more "Mac ready". Good luck!
