Bumped offline. After reconnect, browser doesn't work

Feb 5, 2005 6:30AM PST

We live in a remote part of our state and are stuck with dial-up service.

3-4 times a day we will get bumped offline (disconnected). After reconnecting, the browser doesn't work unless we restart the computer.

The local provider says to "go to Microsoft" and see if they have a patch. If that doesn't work, bring it in and we'll work on it.

Only problem is we're not using IE. We're using Mozilla and are very pleased with it.

It seems that there ought to be something I can do with it before hauling it 50 miles to a tech.

Jake, More Information Please
Feb 6, 2005 3:43AM PST

Whenever posting questions on these forums, please give us as much information as possible about your computer. Depending on your issue, we might need the operating system, processor speed, amount of RAM installed, brand name of the computer, (if there is one), and any EXACT error messages you are receiving, plus any other information you think might be helpful. The more information you give us, the better informed our answer will be.

In this case, which ISP are you using?

When you get kicked off the net, will Internet Explorer work, even though Mozilla doesn't?

Do you receive any error messages when you get kicked off the net?

Have you run any spyware removal tools? If not, please download, install, update, then run the free ones at the links below:

In addition to Grif's suggestions.

Very often when an ISP connection fails, the browser loses focus and will not continue surfing.

You say you have to reboot the computer, but have you tried just closing down the browser and re-starting it?

Quick start
Feb 7, 2005 7:24AM PST

If you are using Mozilla as I do for certain things, there is an option to have a "quich start" icon in the system tray. You should enable it if you havn't already done so and it will remember who you are and where you were. It also loads faster.
