Built my first computer- mistakes were made- cpu overheating

Mar 26, 2015 12:58PM PDT

After finally getting all the pieces in the case and getting it to bios I was trying to move my case and I dropped it. I mistakenly held the case by the front and it popped off, resulting in a pretty hard hit to the ground. Yeah, stupid, I kind of hate myself for it. but anyway:

After freaking out I opened up the case and it seemed everything was fine. Some bits of the case got knocked out of place, including the holster for the hard drive. But nothing seemed broken, and I checked to make sure all of the wires were tightly plugged.

I boot up my computer and it goes straight to bios. all of the fans are working, everything is fine except I notice the cpu temp rising and going all the way up to 88 degrees. that's weird because the first time I ran it (pre-dropping it) it was at 20 degrees. I'm not sure if it's actually that hot or maybe it's some sort or error. maybe I damaged the thermostat... I have no idea the problem. I'm delaying my OS install until I figure this out. any help would be greatly appreciated.

TL;DR I dropped my computer, all of the sudden the cpu temp is claiming to be extremely hot. not sure why. help

no longer flush with the heat spreader on the CPU. It probably lost proper contact when you dropped the case.
