Double click on the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the desktop. Generally, the Playback "Volume Control" screen will appear. Click on "Options" in the upper left corner and make sure there is a CHECK mark in the box next to "Microphone" in the next "Properties" window. Next, place a dot/tick in the "Recording" box. When the Recording "Properties" window loads, make sure the "Microphone" box has a CHECK mark in it, then click on OK. When the "Recording Control" window loads, place a CHECK mark in the "Select" box of the "Microphone" column and move the volume slider to mid-level.
You should now be able to use the internal microphone to record sounds to the onboard "Sound Recorder" program or any other recording device.
Hope this helps.
