Built Digital TV Tuner problems

Last year I bought an Emerson HDTV that has a built in digital tuner. I was under the impression that all you had to do was plug in your tv to the exisiting cable line and you would receive some digital channels. I have done this but have found nothing. Do I also need an antenna for this? I currently do not subscribe to any cable or satellite television services.

Forgive my stupidity for I thought I understood how all this worked--but apparently not.

Your cable co controls this. Ask them for a "cable card."

Logic says cable company don't give free programs. Maybe they should because they have almost just as much commercial as over-the-air channels, hehe.

How much does everyone trust cable?

When I recently moved back to my house, I had cable instead of DircTV. This pissed me off to no end, but when I signed up for HDTV (1080i) I was told that 5 hd channels could fit on each standard channel. Anyone heard about this? My HD seems to be getting worse everyday. Any suggestions?

Pay the early termination penalty or.....

As for 5 into 1; do we really care how it's done? You just want great video..and you are not getting it now. Sorry I can't give more support/help.
