Can anyone offer some reliable resources?

My main concern is component compatibility... and what is the minimum requirements.

...you want to use it for. Low power is best and cheapest for browsing, online video, and emails. Medium to high power for Microsoft Office and other more intensive softwares. High powered for CAD, large graphical works, gaming.

you can go to the hardware section here or any tech forum and list the parts you are thinking about using and ask for compatibility advice.
