Resolved Question

Building my first system

Dec 11, 2011 9:59PM PST

Hey guys I have selected the following parts as part of my new system, as I am still fairly new with building computers I would like someone with more experience to look over my choices and maybe make some reccomendations that could make it cheaper without sacrificing power as it will be used primarily for gaming.

The parts I have selected are:

ASUS P8Z68-V Gen3 Motherboard $229.00

Corsair Carbide 500R Case Black $159.00

Intel Core i5 2500 $219.00

G.Skill Ripjaws F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 $49.00 x2

Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB HD103SJ $149.00

Gainward GeForce GTX 570 1280MB Phantom $369.00 x2

Antec High Current Gamer 900W Power Supply $159.00

Samsung SH-222AB SATA DVDRW Drive $22.00 x2

LG E2750V-PN 27in LED Widescreen Monitor $319
the total comes to $2114

Just give me your opinion on this machine as a whole and tell me if I've missed anything. If you see anything on this list that is overpriced please tell me where I can get it cheaper.
Thanks for your time

Pretty nice!! Did you check out any of the Gigabyte MB'S? Also, though that is a pretty trick case, take a look at the ANTEC 900 and 1000 series boxes, just a thought. Looks great but I am really in to the Gigabyte boards and I use an ANTEC 900 box with one system and LOVE IT, still your set up looks pretty slick. Best of luck!!!!!!!!!!

I've been doing some research and that 900 case looks really good and is alot cheaper I think I might choose it, and as for a gigayte mobo, I found a much more wallet friendly one which I will get. also what do you think would be the minimum watts required for a system like this?

Sounds good

That sounds good for sure!! As Bob Proffit mentioned PSU may be a little overkill you could probably step it down a bit, look at his spec he is very knowledgeable on such and offers logical opinions. Have fun!!!!! BTW, you will like the 900 box, it is very easy to deal with.

The PSU has 40 Ampere rails or 480 Watts. While it's nice to go overboard on power, when you see it go beyond 200% you have to ask why.

If that is a single rail PSU then I can't see how this could go over 300 Watts on a Watt Meter.
