Building my first desktop

Sep 23, 2010 7:20AM PDT

Hi all,

This will be the first time that I'll be building a desktop instead of buying off-the-shelves. I believe that I'll be having more questions later on but as of now the most important question on the top of my head is...AMD or Intel? Intel i7 930 or AMD Phenom II x6 1055T to be specific?

The desktop will be an all-around desktop. I'll be using it for web browsing, watching movies, gaming and web/application development. I know that the i7 outperforms the Phenom II x6, but AMD is much cheaper.

As of now, I'm looking at the aspect of being able to upgrade in the future. With Intel, I can move to i7 970 or 980x for future upgrade since both of them have socket LGA 1366, but with AMD, the x6 is the end of the line for the AM3 socket (as of now).

Every opinion is welcome and would be greatly appreciated ^_^
