Clarification Request
Do you plan to do heavy gaming?

If not, consider an i5 Ivy bridge with some better graphics component as the Intel 77 line is made for those CPUs. You won't need a 150 buck dedicated graphics card. If you are an avid gamer or want to do graphics work, you'll still be better off with an i5.

Re: motherboard

The usual way is to first choose the motherboard, and then the things around it. All I can say now: choose a motherboard that all those other things you buy work with.

Why not ask that same friend for a recommendation? He should be able to make one.
