and more graphics
your graphics card matters most when playing games.
I wouldn't recommend an AMD unless you are dishing out all your cash on your graphics card, which I recommend you to do.
My build with dual Radeon HD 4870 X2's plays games smoothly, it uses an (heavily) overclocked AthlonX2 5000+, upgrading to Corei7 when the price becomes earthly.
Hi Everyone. I've done research on building my own computer but I have an outdated book I read and am not too informed about the new stuff out there. Basically, I would like to build a gaming machine from scratch mainly for gaming - The Sims 2, Fallout 3 and then The Sims 3 I would want to run all on High quality (Graphics and sounds for Fallout, but also speed and memory is needed for TS2 with all the expansions) and then just basic internet and MS Office use, Photos, etc... I'd like to stick with XP, but I'd do Vista if needed. Does anyone have any general suggestions or part suggestions? I'd like to use an AMD processor but I don't which one, I 'd also prefer Nvidia graphics card (which would run Foutout 3 well) and sound card and such are debatable. I really don't know which direction to go for the motherboards and their compatibilities, hard drives and a case to fit them. Oh, and obviously just a DVD RW drive to go in. If Vista is required, I guess i should go 3 GB memory. Sorry for the rambling message, but I don't really know where to start here. I have a Dell 4700 now which I've upgraded as good as I can (NVidia 6600 GT Ge Force, 2 GB Ram, Windows XP, 150 GB Drive, Broadband connection, etc.) but I need a new comp to run today's game standards. Thank you in advance!
