Build me the cheapest gaming PC with these specs

by brandobot / July 17, 2008 3:53 AM PDT

I'm looking to buy/build a PC, of course the faster and cheaper the better, but I know I can't get the best of both worlds.

I would like Intel Core 2 Duo with 3ghz minimum.
A 1GB graphics card
A hard drive 7200rpm, 160GB-320GB is adaquate for me.
At minimum 4GBS of ram.
Dvd drive/burner
I don't know much about motherboards.
Built-in card readers would also be great.

I'm not too sure about casing, power supply and sound cards.
I already have speakers, keyboard, mouse and a monitor.

If you guys can recommend a cheap pre-built machine that'll be great also.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I am still learning about computers, so anyone feel free to inform me if you believe you can recommend me better/cheaper products.

some parts for the budget gaming PC
by repete_smile / July 18, 2008 1:37 PM PDT

The easiest way to build a cheap, high performance PC is to overclock
Get a motherboard that makes it easy
suggestions
any GIGABYTE that supports EasyTune
why: easytune isn't as good as OCing via BIOS, but its a whole lot
easier
an ASUS motherboard
why: I haven't used an ASUS motherboard for any of my PCs, but I
heard the are good Overclockers
If you are on a tight budget, I suggest the AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+ BE
why: it's $75 and you can easily Overclock it to at least 3.3, A
chinese Overclocker got his to 3.5 on the stock cooler for the
normal 5000+. At 3.3, it is as good as more expensive C2Ds, but if
your budget allows it, get a C2D.
RAM should be DDR2
why:DDR3 is expensive
Graphics, no need for 1GB
I can make better suggestions of I know your budget
