Buffalo router not fuction

Sep 29, 2004 2:47PM PDT

When I updated the firmware of Buffalo WBR2-G54 wireless router on Buffalo's website, my Internet Explorer was frozen up. I immediately rebooted my notebook computer, but my notebook no longer could connect to the rounter.

PS. I could use my notebook to connect to other wireless routers.

Could anyone teach me how to solve the problem?

Thank you very much

"Could anyone teach me how to solve the problem?"

First, supply much more information. The OS may have to be told and the router swapped with a working unit to see if it's the issue.

As Bob notes, we need more information. We also need to know what version of the firmware were you trying to upgrade - both the old version on the router and the newer version you were trying to install. You didn't say what country of the world you are in, but you need to be certain that the version you are trying to install is appropriate both for routers sold for use in your country and for your exact model number of router. Buffalo has some new firmware versions but they are for the G54S or WHR3 models only.

Some general rules for updating firmware -

1) Do it over a wired connection. The host system and the router need to communicate during the update process, and the wireless connection could easily be interrupted, causing the firmware flash to be corrupted and fail.

2) Use Internet Explorer and make sure your router address is in the Trusted zone and scripting is enabled.

3) You may need to give your router a complete reset back to the factory condition in order to get it working again. Read your documentation about the diagnostic LEDs.

Ok, the firmware version you indicate should be the right one for the model you mentioned. I suspect the reason it doesn't work is outlined in my previous message under item 1. The firmware update was corrupted when you rebooted the host in mid-flash. The solution, if any, is in my previous message under item 3. Read your documentation about error diagnostics. I can't see the condition of the LEDs from here. You may need to call or email Buffalo tech support for instructions about a manual reset of the firmware; unlike some other routers with a button inside a pin-hole, the standard hardware reset for a Buffalo is on the web-based configuration screen, which obviously you can't get to because the firmware is corrupted. Also, unlike the manufacturers of some other routers, the Buffalo tech support team is actually very good. I had a question about mine, and they responded to my email within 30 minutes.
