Brother status monitor

I have a Brother HL 3170CDW printer attached to my computer using a wired LAN cable. It prints fine but, I can't open the status monitor to see the toner levels. can anyone help?

Usually firewalls or out of date app.

I lost count of router firewalls that cause this and more. You must know where all the firewalls are and turn them off for a test run.

I've turned off windows firewall and disabled my AV programs and none of this helped. I haven't been able to access my router since I lost my sign info. I'm working on resetting it to the defaults. In the mean time, I'm wondering if I shouldn't uninstall the printer and it's driver software and start over.

I've shut down all AV programs, turned off windows fire wall, and the firewall on the router. The status monitor still refuses to work,
