Question

Brother HL 2240 toner.

Feb 13, 2015 5:36PM PST

I was not impressed with the length that the toner lasted with my new Brother so now I'm looking for the biggest cassette available at the best price. Any suggestions welcome .
While looking for toner I saw what was stated to be a Compatible DR2200 Black Drum Unit for the Brother HL 2240?
What is a Drum unit?

Clarification Request
The first toner is usually a starter

Just enough to make it work to keep the initial cost low. As the drum question, are you telling the world that the seller and Brother don't answer basic questions?

Brother laser

As Bob profit stated, the initial cartridge in many and most new off of the shelf laser printers is a starter and contains 50% or less toner than a standard cartridge. Most box stores OD, Staples, etc. carry a couple of variations of the Brother toner cartridges and can explain what you need and steer you in the right direction. The drum is usually a separate unit into which the toner cartridge fits. It is a good idea to stay with OEM toner cartridges unless they are branded as refurbished by the manufacturer. Personally I have found the Brother laser printers to be quite good, comparatively and as economical as any laser units on the market.

Brother high cost of HL2240 toner

It may well be to keep the initial cost low but I see it as a con to only put a small amount of ink in. You ask, "Are you telling the world that the seller and Brother don't answer basic questions?" Well, looking at the prices the seller is charging for replacement ink means I will not be using them again. I have asked Brother but they don't work weekends.

I note the answer that the Drum is separate unit that the Toner cartridge fits. I had hoped that it was just a bigger cartridge. The Samsung ML 6040 I replaced with the Brother had a cartridge that could be re-filled and seemed to last forever but thanks for the information.
