Question

Broken ribbon cable, Touchpad doesn't work

Aug 13, 2016 4:57AM PDT

I was replacing the face panel of my Asus X550JK / R510JK and after the replacement the touchpad doesn't work. I have looked closer and saw that the ribbon cable looks slightly messy. Can I repair that? My first idea was to cut the ugly part and connect the further pary. Any ideas? Sad http://imgur.com/CZRym1l

Answer
Most can't repair those cables.

If it's just the touchpad the easy fix is to use some USB mouse. That's what I'd do until parts are located and ordered.

Is cable the problem?

That is what I am doing now. So you say that the problem is probably the cable? I have trimmed it and cut off the faulty part - still doesn't work. You think that ordering new cable would fix this issue?

Sorry

I can't predict the future. I will share I replace parts like that and have had good luck. I've encountered techs that try to fix all the parts and that's their choice. When I'm in the repair area we have so many things to fix and must offer a warranty that we never bother repairing a part like that.
