Question

Broken part on Dell Latitude E6400

Aug 8, 2016 5:07PM PDT

Hello,

I have a broken area near the right hinge of my Dell Latitude E6400. I am trying to fix it myself, even if it means obtaining a part from somewhere. Below are pictures of the break to help. Notice that I need the exact part to what was broken.

Thank you.

Answer
Best bet? Ebay.

Find a brain dead e6400 on ebay and use that to hold your good innards. Ebay continues to be the only place I can find such small parts. Dell and other makers pretty much supply what is a FRU or a much bigger piece than you are looking for.

Answer? Ebay.

I figured out that it is part of the entire bottom base unit

The hinge slot piece connected to the bottom base assembly broke off. I see that Ebay is a good bet, but how do I ensure I don't get scammed out of what I expected?

For these parts.

I doubt this time it would be a scam. We are looking for a dead laptop as a donor and the issue folk have with laptops on ebay is the unit may be dead or have issues. Here, that's what we are looking for so it's all about finding the brain dead laptop.

But if you worry about scams, you can pay up for the full retail parts from Dell (maybe, if they have them.)

Answer
I have E6420

Your pix didn't appear or link was corrupt. I do suggest that other E64xx series may do as well. That's a strong guess. Google online for any Dell laptop vendors which are plentiful. Of course and actual part or the "ASSY" maybe required for true replacement if item is available. Ebay was already suggested, just check any sources before ordering.

The above is one, but I'm sure there are more. Consider costs but if as offered some dead laptop is possible is a good choice. I suggest you check Craigslist or post queries there locally.
