Broken gif

Jul 24, 2005 4:43AM PDT

Hi! I am totally new at creating a website but I was doing fine at first--using SiteBuilder with VistaPages and all was well. Until I tried uploading some new pictures into it and they uploaded as 0x0 size with a "broken .gif" icon, and although they will show up in thumbnail view they will not show up in full size on my web page. How do I fix a broken gif? Thanks very much--Pups

Check file name and path

a broken gif means the gif your page is looking for is not where it's looking. Verify spelling of the file name (case sensitive) and make sure it's in the right directory.

If you post alink to you page, we can see where the gif should be.....

Broken gif, not a gif at all!

I should have mentioned that my pictures are not in gif format, they are all in jpg format!! So it's beyond me why this whole gif thing is happening. But this made me think, maybe I'll go back and save the pictures in gif format and see if the program likes that better....here I go, I'll let you know what happens! Thanks, Andrea!

doesn't matter

if it's a gif or a jpg - just as long as you call the gif a gif and the jpg a jpg - all else applies unchanged.

Hi--I just discovered the program I was using (Site Builder) to design my webpage does not allow names like I was using--it wants DOS-type names!!! I finally figured it out and everything is cool now. Thanks for your help!

You can go to

http://www.jhepple.com/gif_animator.htm

and download the Miscrsoft gif animator.

It's free and you can open an existing gif and adjust it or you can create your owns gifs

Hope this helps

Thanks, Pudgy, I love this site even if it doesn't solve my problem but I'm going to try the jpg-to-gif thing and see what happens. Wish me luck! Pups

With this

With this program, you can make take a bunch of gif images and put them together to make a flashing banner. (like the ones that say "You are a winner!")

You take a little time to make a series of images and then you put them in the order you want them. You can time them to be faster or slower and all sorts of things.

I have taken a finished image and slowly removed the text letter by letter and save each image as a gif. Then put them together and made a combimed gif image. Works great to make flashing buttons and Banners as well.

Just remember the search engines cannot read anything you have on your gif. So try to keep things simple on your website.

Hope this helps
