broken DVD player - home use/ not computer

Mar 6, 2005 11:38AM PST

My DVD player is reading "no disk" - when there is a DVD in the machine. I am wondering if it is possible to erase the memory to a DVD player if a computer disk is put in by mistake. It tries try to read the DVD as it shows the loading symbol for about a minute and then the "no disk".

The machine is just over a year old ( and of course the guarantee is no longer valid) and was an inexpensive brand. It has barely been used - maybe half a dozen times if that.

I have tried various DVDs, CD's and have unplugged and replugged the system back in. Ever since a computer CD was put in by mistake - it no longer works.

Any other idea - before I attempt to take it to a repair shop.

Try...

A cd/dvd lens cleaner and then... replace the device. With wallymart prices, it's highly doubtful you will get a repair shop to beat its replacement cost.

We have the same problem with our dvd player. This lens cleaner that you suggested, how does it work? Do I need to disassemble my dvd player to use it?

DVR Doesn't play or record. Can anybody help?

I have a Chili(Yamada) DVR 9200HX HDD/DVD recorder.I tried to play a DivX DVD in AVI form (not completely understanding the concept). It wouldn't play,I converted it to Mpeg2 format on my laptop. When i tried to play that version, it just carried on loading then wouldn't reject. i had to dismantle the DVR to get the DVD out (an Asda DVD+RW) now when i try to play a DVD, it says "OPEN" then "LOAD" without anything happening, i press it again (the OPEN/CLOSE button)then it just says "LOADING" it wont play DVDs or record onto them. can anybody give me any constructive advice please? Thankyou W.E.P

If in warranty, call it in. If out of warranty I find repair exceeds replacement costs.
