Question

Broadcast media to the masses

Jan 24, 2015 4:01PM PST

We're organizing an outdoor movie on the big screen, as a charity fundraiser. We have the projector and screen. Have permission from the film studio to broadcast the movie at a public venue. The issue we have is how to broadcast audio so people can listen in with their mobile device?
Have looked at options for streaming video but these devices or apps allow you to access media from one device or computer and then stream it to the device. What we want is to broadcast the audio stream or even if it is the video to multiple devices - so people tune in and listen to the movie and have no control over playback other than their volume control. There are fm transmitters that you can tune a radio to - is there something similar for mobile devices? cheers

There sure is analog and digital over the air broadcasting for video, like there is for radio. In fact, it' not unlikely you receive such at home. But I'm afraid that few mobile devices of your audience can pick it up, even if you could rent and get permission for using such a transmitter.

Ustream - Yes, it's for audio and video but you can send just the audio.
YouTube Live events. Again, just send the audio.
