Broadband flow

Mar 11, 2005 2:28AM PST

My Landlord has a wireless network set up for everyone's usage in the building. At this time that is just 2 computers. It is 802.11g. I want to hook up a 2nd computer(for a total of 3) for access also so that others can online game with me. She however refuses to allow access. I have full signal, but cannot access the router without her admittance via the admin controls she has. She thinks that it will slow down her whatever... surfing/downloading/etc. I have told her that with broadband, even if there is an actual difference in the connection, it would be difficult to even notice. Unfortunately, I CANNOT find anything that states this in clear concise terms! It would have to be very clear, and very simple to grasp, because she thinks she is a computer expert and doesn't believe anything I have to say on the matter. If there is a website or article that states this please let me know. Thank you kindly for your assistance!

Who owns?

She does....
...however, now I cant hookup anyway...when I attempt to connect to the router, even though I am receiving 5 bars, and after, running diagnostics and reinitializing the drivers, card, hookup, etc...I cant get a connection. My computer says it is working properly, and that the card is working properly..yet no connection. She says that the router is working and shows me a piece of paper with an IP address of my laptop. I dont know if this indicates that it is working, or if that information is the most current. It just seems odd that if everything says it is working, why it isnt connecting. Also, my original question is this...will 3 computers on a wireless network have any appreciable effect on speeds?

I forgot to mention that both card and router are Netgear and b/g. Thanx

Appreciable? doubtful. Effect? yes.

Especially if you take some 802.11b card and the rest of the network is 802.11g.

The most common gaffe is diddling with the default settings too much. Next is security settings. Not all cards work with all WAP WEP settings.

Noting in you posts shows an issue to work on. So far, we have only "it doesn't work."
