"British TV" look on new KDL-46XBR9

Aug 31, 2009 2:41AM PDT

Hi,

I have a Sony 46' KDL-46XBR9. It looks great and I set the picture to match C-Net's calibration settings for "film based material". Here's the link:
http://forums.cnet.com/5208-19410_10...&tag=mncol;txt

The picture looks sharp and the colors look good on movies (both on the blu-ray and the satellite - a bit too red on some news programs, I think, though).

The weird thing is that everything (both satellite and blu-ray) looks a bit like British TV. I'm not quite sure how to describe it other than that. You know how the camera just looks different in TV shows made in Britain? Like the camera is more 3-D or the speed is just a tad too high or something?

Well, everything kind of looks like that, just to a lesser extent. Any ideas what may cause that?
Here are my theories, but not sure:

1.This is my first LCD, so maybe they all do this?

2. C-Net's settings have Motionflow set to off, but Cinemotion set to Auto 1. Not sure if that makes a difference.

3. I didn't wait 24 hours to change the settings from the defaults. Not sure if you have to do that or not.

- If anyone has any ideas on how to change this, that'd be great.

Thanks a bunch.

Better, but still there

Okay-

I switched off the Cinemotion option and the Motionflow option. This seems to have mostly solved the problem.

However, I still notice that strange kind of indescribable "British" look every once in a while.

I'm not sure what other options I could disable. Does anyone have any ideas? Really, any suggestions would help.

Thanks.

British TV look / "video" look
Feb 8, 2010 11:27PM PST

I have the same issue with the 40 inch Samsung LED I just bought (UN40B6000). In addition to being like British TV, I would also describe the look as being like "video" as opposed to film. I notice it more on older DVDs played through my Samsung Blu Ray and less on new Blu Ray movies, but it is still there to some extent on new Blu Rays. I also have to echo the previous poster's qualification that this is my first HDTV and so maybe I am not used to it. However, friends who *do* own HDTVs have said it is slightly odd. What should I try?
