I'm admittedly a networking novice, coming from video production world. Assume I know nothing about how networks are built, how they work, etc. I need baby steps.
Goal: I need to design a portable, wireless, live-stream video system that utilizes the existing wifi in different venues. I have everything camera / computer / software figured out. I just need help with the wireless network part.
The rig needs to:
1) connect all my devices (Teradek Cubes, iPad, Macbook Pro) over a private, high bandwidth wireless network that I create on the spot
2) boost the host venue's existing WIFI signal to ensure my broadcast stream is reliable. I do not want to go down the path of generating my own 4G network or anything like that until I absolutely have to, so for now I want to build a rig that can tap into existing networks and improve them for my application.
I've read of people using the Airport Extreme in bridge mode to connect to an existing network, but I am still unclear about the details of the setup, or how it would work outside of home wifi.
Would a single Airport Extreme achieve what I am trying to do?
Is it possible to set up a private network while still accessing the host venue's ISP through the same hardware?
Does my router need to be wired into the venue's modem or can I easily tap into their wireless network (given they cooperate with passwords etc)?
Are there better options for routers / signal boosters / something entirely different that might achieve this?
I'm open to any suggestions that you think might fit this project!
