Question

Bridging router = Slower internet speeds?

Sep 7, 2015 3:45PM PDT

I recently became an AT&T U-verse customer and they use a 2 in 1 modem/router. Just a few months before I had purchased the Netgear Nighthawk R7000. This is an expensive and very good router so I wanted to continue to use it with U-verse however I have to put the Nighthawk in bridge mode to be able to use it. I pay for 45 download speed internet but am lucky to ever get 25, mostly getting around 10 or 15. This is unacceptable and am wondering if the signal running through two routers is the cause of the slowdown. If it is does I will look into AT&T offering a modem only option because I do not want a brand new $200 paper weight of a router. Thank you for your time I really appreciate it.

Answer
Can be true. Why not skip bridge and use it as a WAP?

You are tossing terms about so I'll note that another way is to use the router as a WAP.

Before, I was using bridging router for some reason. I felt the internet was going slower. I have not looked at the specific speed. But I guess it will slowdown due to this.
